Project Insomnia still remains in the initial development stage and is far out from the first words being written, however, the articulation of the subjects, concepts, and possible story threads have surfaced extensively. I won’t go into intimate detail of these aspects within this development notes; I will, however, share the foundation of them.
Weltschmerz: Defined as a feeling of melancholy and world-weariness, this romantic German phrase became a commonly used noun to articulate this sensation. This phrase is the foundation of Project Insomnia; world-weariness, to be exact.
Insomnia: Insomnia, also known as sleeplessness, is a sleep disorder where people have trouble sleeping. They may have difficulty falling asleep, or staying asleep as long as desired. Juxtaposed to Weltschmerz, applying this disorder to the basis of narrative, a natural conflict was created. In the state of insomnia, as I described in a previous entry, a momentary burst of energy and clarity can occur despite the hunger of sleep; this pivots the perspective of an insomniac’s world, in a sense–what went unnoticed may now be noticed. An altered perception, what will it bring?
Lucid Dreaming: Controlling your dreamscape, cogniscent within the unconscious world. What would happen if someone who experiences this cannot sleep? Inside their dreams, a world manipulated by their thoughts, ever changing, this is a place they couldn’t be weary of.
Anchor: A weight keeping an object in place. Be it a dream or in the waking world, we all have anchors that keep us at a location or with a person.
Sleep Paralysis: Sleep paralysis is when, during awakening or falling asleep, one is aware but unable to move.
